Our institute is a key scientific research institution of Henan University. It is mainly engaged in the research of large-span space structures and steel structures. Major current research interests are large-span space steel structures, new materials and new spatial structures, the industrialization of residential steel construction, tall steel structures, etc.
Established in March 2008 by the Henan University, it was officially accredited as a school-level general scientific research institution in June 2010 and a key scientific research institution of Henan University in October 2017.
The institute currently has 10 scientific research personnel, including 1 distinguished professor of Henan University, 1 famous teacher of Henan Province, 3 associate professors and 9 doctors. There are also 21 master degree candidates. The institute is chaired by Professor Wenfeng Du. Associate Professor Hui Zhang works as the secretary. We have invited experts from other universities to give lectures and guidance. Experts we have invited include Academician Shilin dong, a famous space structure expert from Zhejiang University; Professor Yigang Zhang from Beijing University of Technology; Professor Ben Young from Hong Kong University; Professor Boqing Gao from Zhejiang University; and Dr. Yan from Hong Kong University. In addition, our institute has established industry-education-research cooperative relationships with companies including Henan Yadong Zhonghong Construction Engineering Co., Ltd., Kaifeng Tianyuan Mesh Co., Ltd., and Kaifeng Anlida Metal Engineering Co., Ltd.
Our institute is responsible for teaching undergraduates courses such as Structural Mechanics, Steel Structures, English for Civil Engineering, and the postgraduate course Space Structure. We have presided over 5 vertical research projects (2 National Natural Science Foundation projects included), 8 provincial-level scientific research projects, 2 industry-education-research cooperation projects at provincial level, and more than 20 horizontal projects (2 international projects included), with a total research funding of over 4 million yuan. We have published a total of 150 academic papers (40 indexed by SCI or EI), 4 textbooks, and won 20 national patents. Two of our scientific research achievements have reached the top level domestically. We have received more than 10 scientific research awards and 3 provincial awards.
Our institute has gradually established its position in academia in both Henan Province and the whole country. We are committed to build ourselves into a research institute with first-class academic level, first-class reputation and first-rate achievements. We also aim to contribute to developing Henan University into a first-class educational institution with first-class disciplines through personnel training, scientific research and serving local economic development.
